the gospel says that we are "worth more than many sparrows". on this earth, we will never really know how valuable we are in God's eyes. and then we remember "you are dust and to dust we shall return"
so we go back and forth knowing that we really arent much-- like dust-- but also that we have a divine nature-- the Holy Spirit.
i plan to use the daily mass readings as a springboard into reflecting on how God touches us in faith and life. these reflections will be the basis of my daily homily at mass

truth or lies?
paul's letter to the romans is the first reading and in it he says, that we"...exchanged the truth of God for a lie and revered and worshiped the creature rather than the creator"
this is the sin of adam and eve and effects are still with us.
how often do we see ourselves giving more credence to a ideology-- whether political or religious-- than God himself? is not this a form of exchanging the truth for a lie?
can we see this in our society and how this form of secularism affects us as a community?

focus
"blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it"
who doesn't want to be blessed? but the steps we hear today are to "hear" God's word and to do it. if we are not deliberate about these steps, we will miss the mark in the blessing that comes with these actions.
be blessed; be deliberate

the power of the rosary
on this feast of "our lady of the rosary", it seems to me that the power of the mysteries of this popular meditation is deeper within our catholic consciousness than we know:
the incarnation in the nativity,
the resurrection,
the descent of the Holy Spirit
are central to the christian identity and life
mystery is part of the beauty of faith and those moments that we realize that our seemingly insignificant lives are wrapped up in it, we are richer for it

action and contemplation
how much are we like martha? she was concerned and anxious about many things
how much are we like mary? she chose the better part of being with jesus
traditionally, this scripture has been interpreted as the aspects of action and contemplation in the christian life. can there be harmony? how do i live this today?
